A sharp hook is the be-all and end-all when fishing for carp with a self-hook rig.

However, hooks become dull over time.

Be it through stony water bottom or through several caught fish.

Many anglers are now starting to tie new rigs with new hooks.

But that doesn't have to be the case if you've mastered a few tricks and, with a little practice, have an even sharper hook than before!

Fish are caught with extremely sharp hooks when fishing and now you can get one!

WHAT YOU NEED FOR A RAZOR SHARP HOOK!

1. coarse file

2. fine file

3. possibly magnifying glass

4. Marker black

Step 1: FIX

Fix the hook in a special vise (if you have one) or simply between your thumb and forefinger...

Step 2: FILE

Take a file (you can now get this in any well-stocked tackle shop or on the internet) and put it on the tip of the hook...

TIP: You can also get suitable files in any cosmetics shop, but they should not be too flexible!

Step 3: THREE TIMES

Run the file three times over the tip of the hook with a little pressure. A sharp point should already be forming...

Step 4: CONTROL

Use a magnifying glass to check your hook to see whether such a point has already formed. If not, do a few more reps!

Step 5: FINISHING

Now use a slightly finer file to put the finishing touches on the hook.

Step 6: PROTECT

The ground hook tip is now prone to rust as we remove the coating by sharpening it. So now take an Edding and paint the tip of the hook with it. This is enough to keep the hook from rusting!

Step 7: DONE

Your sharpened hook is now optimally protected and ready! Most likely, it's also sharper than ever now!

A good hook can be sharpened two to three times in this way before you really need to replace it with a new one!
